Alex Eckman-Lawn
That's not digital, that's paper.
Born in Philadelphia and educated at the University of the Arts, Alex has exhibited his work in New York, Miami, and international galleries, including StolenSpace and BeinArt Gallery.
His art explores the fear of what goes on inside our bodies, our vulnerability, and our desire for control.
The works of Alex Eckman-Lawn will help expand your imagination when it comes to nightmares — and develop some good taste along the way.
He discovered his signature technique almost by accident, when he realized that the paper left behind after cutting out images was more interesting than the collage itself. Filmmakers David Lynch and David Cronenberg have also been major influences on his work.
You might have already encountered his art on comic book covers, including Superman, Ice Cream Man, Something Is Killing the Children, The Department of Truth, and The Sandman Universe: Nightmare Country.
At first glance, you might think you're looking at digital art. But these are actually intricate, hand-cut, multi-layered paper collages — although in this case, paper sculptures feels like a much more appropriate description.
